Curlew Barrel Derby - Sunday, June 1st

This year's Barrel Derby is looking to be bigger and better than ever.  2008 marks the 100th birthday of the Curlew Bridge, so this year's Barrel Derby theme, "Spanning Generations", will try to incorporate that milestone as well as our community and our resident's history.  There will be BINGO held at the Civic Hall on Saturday, May 31st at 7:00 PM, the day before Barrel Derby.

The Arts Council of Ferry County has chosen to hold their annual Ansorge Artists' Affair on the same day, so we should see an increased attendance for both events.  We welcome this new addition and feel both events will enhance each other.  Parking may become an issue, so plan to arrive early and find a good spot, remembering that some areas are to be kept clear to make room for vendors and the parade route.

Now that we have this website online, you can download and print your own Barrel Derby Tickets, as well as entry forms for the Fun Run, the Parade, and the 3 on 3 Hoop Jam by clicking on the links below.  You can even download and print the posters for Barrel Derby, BINGO and the Ansorge Artists' Affair to help us spread the word.  Note: You'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader to download and print the files.  It's Free to download here.

It's been a long cold winter.  But Spring is coming up on us quickly and we already have lots of activities planned for 2008.  Barrel Derby is coming on Sunday June 1st.  The fact that 2008 is also the 100th Birthday of the Curlew Bridge is going to make this year's Barrel Derby event even more special.  The Curlew Duck Derby in the fall is quickly becoming a favorite with its combination of great prizes, Bruce's Grilled Cheeze sandwiches, French Dip and homemade soups, followed by the annual Chili Cookoff sponsord by the Ferry County Chamber of Commerce.  Be sure to mark this website as one of your favorites so you can keep up on what's happening in your community.

The first white man to come to Curlew was Guy Helphrey in 1896.  He and his partner bought some property with a log cabin for $100 from Chief Long Alec, where they established the first store in the area.
